Water in Puglia

In Puglia, water has always been an extremely valuable resource – the hot climate and limited rainfall have meant that the region has faced periodic problems with water availability and pressure for years.

This is one of the characteristic "flavors" of southern Italy, especially noticeable in older buildings and apartments located on the upper floors.

For this reason, occasional momentary drops in water pressure from taps or showers may occur, especially during peak usage times. This is completely normal for the region and a part of everyday life for Puglia residents.

In the region, water is safe to drink directly from the tap without boiling. It is treated and regularly monitored in accordance with Italian and European Union standards.

However, in many places in Puglia, the water has a rather intense, mineral taste and high calcium levels, which is why many people prefer bottled water.
